Hestan is a small island situated just off the Dumfries an
Galloway coast in Scotland. It sits at the mouth of the Urr
Estuary in the Solway Firth.

Though small, measuring approximately 460 metres by 270
metres with a maximum height of just over 50 metres, the
island has a surprisingly rich and exciting history.

Hestan Island has several interesting features including a working lighthouse, a small stone cottage and the remains of Edward Balliol's manor house. Smuggling was also an important part of Hestan's history, with the island's caves being used to hide contraband.

The island has had several permanent residents in the past but is currently uninhabited.
