Shore Crab, Carcinus maenas

Shoreline
Along the shoreline of Hestan can be found the usual range of rock pool dwellers including crabs and other crustaceans. Shellfish to be found in abundance include mussels, cockles, barnacles, limpets and razor clams.

Hestan has some very large rock pools which are home to anemones, shrimps, periwinkles and large crabs.

Also found on the rocky shallows occasionally stranded by the tide is the common blenny (Blennius pholis). Colours vary in this small fish but are usually mottled greenish brown.
