Sea Pink, Latin name: Armeria maritima

Plant Life
Much of Hestan is covered in grass, providing useful pasture for sheep grazing, with little in the way of tree and shrub matter. There are patches of bracken, nettles and thistles throughout the island. There are two slightly more exotic looking flax (Phormium tenax) plants situated near the house which are likely to have have been introduced by one of the island’s tenants.

Sea thrift (Armeria maritima) with its pink flowers grows profusely along the beach amongst the shingle and rock crevices.
